Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will address NTU students tomorrow at the annual Ministerial Forum. However, the topic Singapore – A Buzz City reveals little of the forum’s agenda. Making Singapore a “fun city” has been a running theme for Singapore’s development over the past five years, but casinos, theme parks and vibrant night scenes are probably not the biggest issues on an average NTU student’s mind. When NTU fell eight places in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings last year, NTU Provost Bertil Andersson brushed it off as mathematically impossible. Though ranking is important, it should be taken with a pinch of salt, the university said then, for the Times just a commercial newspaper and not an academic authority.
