When NTU fell eight places in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings last year, NTU Provost Bertil Andersson brushed it off as mathematically impossible. Though ranking is important, it should be taken with a pinch of salt, the university said then, for the Times just a commercial newspaper and not an academic authority.
