I think the president Su Guaning can have his way in hijacking the NTU name. And he expected that he can claim that as his biggest achievement at NTU in military style. It was funny when the change of name was top on his agenda. When DPM Tony Tan reigned in and halted the name change, it was clear that it was not the Govt's agenda for a name change instead it was Su Guaning who was pushing the agenda. NTU has so many positive things (like a medical school to provide healthcare for people) that could be accomplished instead of the name change. I am not sure if he has achieved 10% of what his predecessor Dr Cham Tao Soon achieved.

If we are considering a name change why not add "Singapore" to the name somewhere? Many of my colleagues back in the states think that NTU is in China. NUS doesn't have this problem. Nanyang University of Singapore (NUOS) Singapore Nanyang University (SNU) etc. This would seem to be important for branding etc.

Hmm..no comments by others? Seriously, although my Dad and Mun were both Nantah alumni and always told me their Nantah experiences, i do not feel the kind of affiliation with the school's history/past. I genuinely do not feel the 'Nantah spirit' in present day NTU. I would rather Nantah remain a beautiful closed chapter of the campus history. NTU being technologically oriented and all privatised, has lost its soul.
